Inaugural ‘Hubble’ Conference hosted by Rail Forum at Modern Railways Expo

With guest speakers: Network Rail East Midlands Route and Hypermile.

CrossTech, hosted by Rail Forum, held their very first Hubble conference in recognition of AI technology and the role it plays in making a positive and significant impact to transport safety and efficiency. Attendees at the Modern Railways Expo held on 22 November 2022 in Milton Keynes heard from Network Rail East Midlands on how they utilise Hubble for the benefit of passengers and freight customers.

Dr James Hennessy, Hypermile CEO & Founder, also spoke about how he is using similar AI technologies to those used in Hubble to deliver his co-pilot and fuel efficiency systems for the global trucking and logistics industries. The conference finished with a collaborative session on Hubble’s 2023 roadmap.

Sammy Oswin, Project Change Manager from Network Rail demonstrated how the East Midlands Route uses Hubble to pinpoint maintenance teams to the locations of where remediations were required to help reduce the risk of damage to freight cargo, saving costs and improving safety on the rail network.

CrossTech also presented the first public preview of Hubble’s new automated invasive species detection capabilities, which have been developed and trialled on Network Rail Eastern Region.

Haydon Bartlett-Tasker, CrossTech Managing Director, said: “Species detection is just the start of a raft of new features coming to Hubble and front-line teams in 2023. We continue to work with Network Rail’s front-line teams to give them better information and analysis on the lineside and track assets through automated inspection and fault detection technologies”.

We would like to thank those who attended the Hubble Conference, with much appreciation to Network Rail, Hypermile, Rail Form and Modern Railways.
