Adey Steel has been named an Apprenticeship Partnership Winner at the inaugural Leicester College Apprenticeship Awards.

The steel fabrication infrastructure, which specialises in the rail, highways and energy sector, was singled out for an Employer Partnership Award by Leicester College for supporting its intermediate apprenticeship programme in recent years at a special event held at the Sue Townsend Theatre in Leicester.

Adey Steel currently has six members of staff completing their three-year apprenticeship programmes at its’ 100,000 square foot purpose-built facility on the outskirts of Loughborough.

Leicester College is the largest apprenticeship training delivery organisation in Leicester, helping apprentices learn new skills and gain experience to succeed in their chosen career.

Robert Hall, Operations Director at the Adey Steel Group, explained: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this award. It’s great to be recognised by Leicester College for the work we are doing with them on our Adey Academy, ensuring our internal apprentice training programme meshes with the College’s learning syllabus.

“Training the next generation in engineering, fabrication and welding is critical to the long-term future of both the Adey Steel Group and the wider UK steel fabrication industry. As our workforce ages and the recruitment of experienced employees becomes harder, we will increasingly need our apprentices to help us deliver the critical infrastructure projects we work on across the rail, highways and energy sectors.”

Robert Hall added: “Having a great apprenticeship provider like Leicester College is key to this success and the team at Leicester College really deliver. They do the hard work – helping with recruitment, enrolment, and student welfare – allowing us to get on with the training and development. The College team also helps by smoothing out the levy fee process and paperwork – which can be daunting to smaller businesses like ourselves!”
