Ride the Route 2025

Ride the Route gears up for its 4th year: Join the adventure!

Are you ready for an unforgettable journey that combines passion, purpose, and pedal power? The 4th annual Ride the Route event is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever.

This incredible charity ride brings together enthusiastic volunteers from across the rail industry to cycle over 360km, all in support of the Railway Children charity. It’s not just about raising funds; it’s about forging stronger bonds within our industry and uniting for a cause that helps vulnerable children around the world.

Mark your calendars:

  • Dates: 4 – 6 September 2025
  • Route: Embark on an epic adventure along the TransPennine Route Upgrade, from Liverpool to Scarborough and back to Darlington.
  • Who can join: Cyclists of all skill levels are welcome – whether you’re a seasoned rider or a casual cyclist, there’s a place for you!

The route is still to be fully confirmed, but starting at Liverpool Station, we’ll pedal through Bolton and Rochdale, and make our way over to Leeds. York, a beloved stop from previous rides, awaits us with its historic charm. Feel the sea breeze as we ride along the coast from Bridlington, pass the picturesque Robin Hood’s Bay, and finally head back inland to Darlington.

  • Wednesday, 3rd September: Gather in Liverpool for a welcoming meal and overnight stay.
  • Thursday, 4th September: Kick off the ride from Liverpool at 08:00, ending the day in Garforth, followed by a hearty meal and overnight stay.
  • Friday, 5th September: Continue the journey to Scarborough, wrapping up with dinner and an overnight stay.
  • Saturday, 6th September: Conclude the ride in Darlington, where medals will be awarded to our amazing volunteers around 16:00.

Choose your adventure:

  • Full Event: £70 registration fee, with a minimum fundraising pledge of £350
  • Single Day: £50 registration fee

Not a cyclist? No problem! We need dedicated support crew members to drive vans and ensure our riders are well-fed, hydrated, and safe throughout the event.

Railway Children will provide hotel suggestions after sign-up, but participants are responsible for booking their own stays and for purchasing lunch and evening meals.

Thanks to the incredible support from sponsors like Siemens, AtkinsRéalis, Mercury3 Consult, PwC, Alstom, Thales/Hitachi, Avanti West Coast, and LNER, we’ve raised over £200,000 for Railway Children. Organisations are still welcome to sponsor this year’s event, so please get in touch to find out more. Let’s aim even higher this year!

Registration will close on 31st May 2025 – so sign up now!
