Parents urged to take action: ‘PARENT DAY’ launches to drive rail safety in schools

As part of Rail Safety Week and during Rail Live, the Rail Safe Friendly Programme is excited to present “Parent Day” on Thursday 19th June. This initiative is designed as a dedicated day for families to champion rail safety within their communities.

The primary goal of Parent Day is to increase the number of schools offering life-saving rail safety education. The programme aims to empower parents, grandparents, and extended family members to actively participate. By contacting their local schools and requesting they join the Rail Safe Friendly Programme, families can directly contribute to safeguarding young people.

To further support participation, a free downloadable postcard is available on the Rail Safe Friendly website. This postcard can be printed and taken to local schools to easily share information about the programme and encourage them to sign up.

The Rail Safe Friendly Programme also encourages businesses to support Parent Day. Companies are urged to allow their employees time on 19th June to engage with local schools. This presents an excellent opportunity for employee engagement and fostering positive community relations. Businesses are encouraged to share photos of their team’s involvement and tag the Rail Safe Friendly Programme to highlight their commitment to rail safety.

Neil Bradbury, Managing Director of Schweizer Electronic commented: “Rail safety is a passion of mine. When I first heard of the Rail Safe Friendly Programme, supporting it was a clear decision for our company. I’ve previously addressed railway dangers in schools, and as a parent, the programme’s aims strongly resonate with me.”

The programme emphasises that participation from everyone is essential to make Rail Safety Week a success. Collective action is needed to ensure every child has access to vital rail safety education. Each contribution is valued, and together, the community can work towards saving lives.

Neil continued: “I strongly encourage other companies to join us in supporting Parent Day. By allowing employees time to engage with local schools and share the importance of rail safety, we can collectively make a significant impact and help protect our young people.”

Individuals are invited to join Parent Day by signing up at here and entering ‘Parent Day’ in the comments. By signing up, they can participate and help bring crucial rail safety education to local schools.
