Train operator Northern has released details of how to get tickets for the ‘Heaton 150’ open day, taking place in September.
To mark 150 years of rail operations at the site, Newcastle’s Heaton TrainCare Centre will be throwing open its doors on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September for a rare behind-the-scenes look at the people, trains and technology that keep the railway moving.
Tickets for the event will go on general sale at 1pm on Thursday 31 July, priced at £12 for adults and £5 for children (under 16).
A limited numbers of seats will be available on complimentary shuttle services running to and from Newcastle station to the depot site.
Visitors to the open day can expect to see a range of trains on display from the Northern, TransPennine Express and LNER fleets, as well as visiting guest locomotives including the iconic A4 ‘Pacific’ steam engine, ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’.
Behind the scenes tours of the depot facilities will also be available, alongside food and drink stalls, railway memorabilia and more.
It comes as the region gears up to celebrate Railway 200, marking 200 years since the birth of the modern railway in Stockton and Darlington.
Jason Wade, regional director for Northern, said: “Heaton has played a vital role on the railway for 150 years and continues to be home to the teams who keep our trains running day in, day out.
“This open day is a chance for us to celebrate that heritage, showcase our colleagues and give the public a unique look behind the scenes. We’re incredibly proud of what Heaton represents and can’t wait to welcome visitors to the depot.”
All profits from the event will go to local charities and the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
