A leading UK rail operator has achieved an 11% reduction in ticketless travel after deploying an AI-powered gateline intelligence platform developed by Glimpse Analytics.
The operator had long recognised fare evasion as a source of significant revenue leakage, but lacked the visibility needed to understand its scale or root causes. Gatelines left open, stuck, or malfunctioning were contributing to the problem, yet operational teams had no reliable way to monitor gate performance across the network. Fault identification and incident investigation relied on reactive processes, making it difficult to prioritise maintenance resources or quantify the commercial impact.
The solution came through Glimpse’s software-first platform, which integrates with existing CCTV infrastructure rather than requiring dedicated hardware. Using computer vision models, the platform continuously monitors gateline performance in real time, automatically detecting gates that remain open longer than expected and generating alerts that allow teams to investigate and act quickly.
The results were measurable. Alongside the reduction in ticketless travel, fault triage and repair times fell by 14%, as real-time monitoring replaced slower, reactive workflows. The platform has now been deployed across the operator’s station network, giving teams a consistent, network-wide view of gateline performance and its relationship to passenger behaviour.
“The insights generated by the platform have transformed our understanding of gateline performance,” said the operator’s Director of Operations. “Real-time visibility has enabled our teams to identify issues faster and improve operational responsiveness.”
