Synectics’ Synergy security and surveillance platform has achieved Cyber Assurance of Physical Security Systems (CAPSS) certification, providing rail operators and infrastructure organisations with independent assurance that cyber security is embedded throughout the platform’s development and operation.
Administered by the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA), CAPSS assesses whether physical security products meet rigorous, government-defined cyber security requirements.
This assurance is increasingly important across the rail sector. Stations, depots, control rooms and wider transport networks depend on connected security systems to protect passengers, employees, infrastructure and operations. A cyber vulnerability within these systems could compromise surveillance data, disrupt operational visibility or weaken the protection of critical assets.
Synergy’s CAPSS certification gives rail security, IT and procurement teams an independently verified benchmark when assessing security and surveillance technology. It also supports supplier selection as cyber assurance becomes increasingly important within procurement frameworks, organisational security policies and national guidance.
Following certification, Synergy has also been included in the NPSA Catalogue of Security Equipment, helping train operators, infrastructure managers and transport authorities identify technology that meets nationally recognised cyber assurance standards.
Achieving CAPSS requires cyber security to be designed into the platform as a whole, rather than added through individual features. Synergy supports secure deployment through encrypted video transmission and storage, role-based access controls, device and network authentication, audit logging and system health monitoring.
Its built-in Secure Check framework also helps users configure their systems in line with cyber security best practices. This includes checking password strength, encryption settings and account permissions to identify potential weaknesses and support ongoing cyber resilience.
