How can SMEs become sustainable and profitable?

This Masterclass, the first of four, is an introduction to what it means and what you can do as businesses. It is the start of understanding the needs, benefits and actions required to transition to a clean and sustainable future.

This Masterclass will be delivered by a Coventry University expert with over 20 years’ experience in energy advisory roles and sustainability.

The event is supported by the West Midlands Decarbonisation Net Zero programme, who will outline grants and the support available to West Midlands SMEs to assist them in making their businesses more sustainable.

  • Financial business case for introducing sustainable business practices
  • How to engage with stakeholders for sustainable business success

  • Understand what sustainability is and the key drivers and challenges to businesses in becoming sustainable
  • Understand what measures a business can take to become sustainable
  • Understand how investing in sustainability can boost your business
  • Gain knowledge on some of the support available in the region to support businesses on their sustainability journey

Your presenter for the Sustainability: From Understanding to Action will be Luisa Sykes.

Luisa Sykes is a tutor with comprehensive lecturing experience and module leadership experience at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Luisa is currently working for CU London Coventry University group as a tutor in the BSc Energy Management course. Before joining Coventry University, Luisa worked for GSM London as the programme leader for the MBA Energy and Sustainability prioritizing the highest standards of delivery bridging academia and industry to enhance programme relevance.

Luisa is a Fellow of the HEA.

Luisa worked in the energy industry as a senior consultant with twenty years of experience in energy advisory roles. Luisa provided bespoke advice on project investment, valuations, project financing and market analysis for international energy companies.

Clean Futures is one of the 5 West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Innovation Accelerators, funded by Innovate UK with a total of £33 million, set up to help drive forward the West Midlands Plan for Growth by supporting and accelerating innovation in cleantech, medtech and digital.

The Clean Futures programme is led by the Connected Places Catapult and supported by Coventry University clean growth R&D specialists and the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO).
