We are CAF, a key player in the UK rail industry since opening our Newport factory in Wales in 2018. This facility, which employs more than 250 people, is designed for the assembly, finishing, and testing of a wide range of railway vehicles, including regional trains, trams, and metros. By providing local employment and supporting a network of UK-based suppliers, our factory plays a significant role in boosting the local economy and industrial sector.
Our factory has been crucial in delivering these vehicles to operators across the country, contributing to the growth of the UK’s rail infrastructure. Our latest contract involves supplying the UK’s first trimode train fleet, which will be delivered to the London North Eastern Railway (LNER). This versatile fleet will operate on the East Coast Main Line, running on both electrified and non-electrified sections of the network.
We are also playing a major role in the modernisation of the UK’s signalling systems. As part of Network Rail’s long-term plan to upgrade the country’s rail infrastructure, we will install our advanced ERTMS Level 2 technology in collaboration with the British company AtkinsRéalis. This project will enhance network capacity, safety, and reliability over the next decade.
Our growing presence in the UK is further strengthened by partnerships with operators such as First Group, Arriva, Serco Group, West Midlands Trains, Transport for Wales, Transport for London, and West Midlands Metro.
Continuous innovation is the cornerstone of our company, enabling us to develop advanced solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers. This has positioned CAF at the forefront of sustainable mobility as a benchmark company in global accessible rail markets and as the European leader in the zero-emission urban bus segment.
These achievements would not be possible without the dedication of our global workforce: a 16,000-strong team across more than 60 countries who demonstrate a firm commitment to excellence and quality. They are the driving force behind our success and ability to innovate and lead in sustainable mobility.
Together, we are building a greener and more efficient future, transforming the way we move the world, and making a positive contribution to the well-being of the planet and its people.
