Return of Deltic Preservation Society locomotive

The return to main line operation of the Deltic Preservation Society’s Network Rail-certificated Class 55 ‘Deltic’ locomotive, D9009 Alycidon has taken a major step forward with the swapping of one of its complex 13-ton Napier power units in order to exchange a main generator. The locomotive, one of three owned by the DPS, will shortly be moved to the Great Central Railway for testing. A return to hauling main line charters is scheduled for next Spring.

The DPS had begun providing engineering tutorials to graduates and apprentices from Siemens, the course providing an insight into how a diesel electric locomotive functions. The DPS is keen to extend this training course to other members of the RFM.
