Secretary of State’s Announcement on HS2 Reset (19th May 2026)

Rail Forum welcomes the announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport on the reset of HS2, designed to deliver this new railway as quickly as possible and at the lowest reasonable cost.
The renewed government commitment to HS2, designed to address growing passenger and freight capacity constraints between London and Birmingham, is welcome.
However, the decision to descope and extend the project will concern our members. Particularly those who are already involved in supplying labour, infrastructure, rolling stock and technical services.
We look forward to meeting with Mark Wild and his team, to understand what the rescheduling of this key infrastructure project means for suppliers and how they can best align with newly announced timelines, whilst protecting UK skills, engineering capabilities and jobs.
