EnPro Complete Successful Class 380 OTPA Modification for ScotRail at Shields Road Depot

A group of people stood next to a train

EnPro Scotland supported ScotRail with the successful delivery of the Class 380 On-Train Passenger Announcement (OTPA) GSM-R Handset to PIS modification at Glasgow Shields Road Depot.  This clever improvement allows control rooms to send priority Public Address (PA) announcements straight to passengers on multiple trains through the existing GSM-R network.

The Scotland team installed the specialised breakout harness that links the Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) handset to the Passenger Information System (PIS).

This project could only begin once EnPro had completed the GSM-R software upgrade across the fleet. From thorough pre-installation testing and careful harness routing inside the cab and electrical cubicles, through to full functional checks of both systems, every stage was delivered with the precision these safety-critical interfaces demand.

This is a further demonstration of the turnkey project management capability we bring to Traction & Rolling Stock (T&RS) fleet upgrades.
