Incremental is delighted to announce that ScotRail has selected the company to implement its full Operational Intelligence Suite, providing powerful new insight into the causes of recurring delay across Scotland’s railway.

The solution will provide ScotRail with a step change in the way it identifies, investigates and understands sub-threshold delay, enabling performance teams to move beyond traditional delay attribution and uncover the systemic factors that affect network performance.

Using high-resolution operational data, timetable information, Train Describer data and advanced analytics, the platform will enable ScotRail to:

  • Identify recurring sources of unexplained delay
  • Analyse junction capacity and train interactions
  • Understand minor delay accumulation across the network
  • Measure headways, dwell variability and train separation
  • Support evidence-based operational and timetable improvements

The platform combines Incremental’s operational analytics expertise with intuitive visualisation, allowing Performance, Planning, Control and Safety teams to investigate complex operational issues quickly and consistently.

Tim Flower, Chief Revenue Officer at Incremental, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to have been selected by ScotRail for this important programme. This project represents exactly the type of challenge Incremental was created to solve—helping railway operators transform large volumes of operational data into practical insight that improves performance.
We look forward to working closely with ScotRail to deliver a capability that supports evidence-based decision making and contributes to a more reliable railway for passengers.”

The solution builds on Incremental’s growing portfolio of operational intelligence solutions deployed across the UK rail industry, supporting operators and infrastructure managers with performance analysis, real-time train positioning and operational decision support.

The solution has been funded by Transport Scotland through the Targeted Performance Fund.
