‘Fast Track 4 Light Rail’ is the second in the series of Clean Futures Catalyst best practice workshops, delivered as part of the ‘Greener Transport Infrastructure‘ challenge theme.

Light Rail (LR) and Very Light Rail (VLR) are emerging as key growth sectors within the wider rail ecosystem, with innovation at the forefront of developing the network of sustainable transport systems we need for the future, both here in the UK and around the world. As such, we explore the history and development of the sectors to date, the potential for engagement of a range of diverse stakeholders, including throughout the broader supply chain, and the essential need for groundbreaking technological solutions.

Fast Track 4 Light Rail is an informative and interactive workshop that will facilitate a deep dive into the challenges and opportunities associated with the development and deployment of LR and VLR transit systems in the UK.

The workshop is delivered by the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO), together with the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research & Education (BCRRE) and Midland Metro Alliance (MMA).

The agenda will include presentations from BCIMO and leading industry, academic and research professionals, as well as a tour of the Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre and its facilities, including its Rail Development & Test Site and Meeting & Event Spaces, and a networking lunch.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The workshop is a FREE event which will appeal to local authorities, city / town and transport design and planning professionals, civil engineering contractors and manufacturing / engineering supply chain in the region, including those already working within the LR and VLR sectors; but particularly those who would like to find out more about the challenges the sectors face, and so range of opportunities and potential for diversification they offer.
