IMechE: Ensuring the Relevance of Rail in a Changing Environment

Date/Time
Date(s) - November 8 2017
5:15pm - 7:30pm

Location
Derby Roundhouse

Richard McClean, the new Railway Division Chairman, joined the railway industry as an Engineering Management Trainee in 1982, working in various parts of the network, mainly in the London area.

Richard will consider the appropriate role of engineering and engineers in contributing to the future railway industry in a complex and changing world. In doing so, he will consider what the broader economy and society appears to require of the rail sector and what rail can realistically offer back to remain relevant to politicians, funders, suppliers, end users and staff. The address will highlight what the rail industry needs to do to become more attractive as a career choice for new generations of potential engineers and what the Railway Division should focus on to support this.
