Grayling Visits the RFM

Last week the Rail Forum Midlands and it’s member organisations were delighted to welcome Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP to Derby. During a lunch hosted by local technology solutions company Resonate, Grayling discussed many issues close to the hearts of Midland rail businesses which he acknowledged is the “engine of the UK railway industry”, including the importance of consistency of workload/ orders, recognising that this builds confidence in the supply chain; facilitates investment in skills, equipment and innovation, and drives productivity and efficiency, and reduces costs. He also stated his commitment that Government Minister would “beat the drum for UK plc” for rail product exports if as a region we can showcase our capability.

Paul Francis, chair of the Rail Forum commented:

“Chris Grayling sent some very encouraging messages to the UK rail industry today. In particular the power of rail to unlock congestion, new housing and economic development. The Rail Forum welcomes this vision and is keen to play its part. At the same time we look forward to seeing how our region can benefit from new railways”.
