Bombardier will provide information at a Careers in the Community Event in Derby on 16.10.2019

Rail Forum Midlands provided information at the “Careers in the Community” event organised by Derby City Council, with local employers, intended to inspire children who remain uncertain about what they want to do when they leave school.  Around 40 pupils, between the ages of fourteen and sixteen, from the Da Vinci Academy and Lees Brook School attended an evening drop-in session, on 09.10.2019, to learn about different careers available locally.  The event provided an opportunity for GCSE aged children to engage in one-to-one discussions with employers.

Elaine Clark from Rail Forum Midlands, speaking with children on behalf of the rail supply chain, discovered that while most of the children knew about Bombardier apprenticeships – which recently received public commendation by the Education and Skills Department, as large East Midlands employer of 2019 – they didn’t realise how many rail-related employers existed in Derby, or the sort of roles that are available to them.  Additionally to RFM, the event was supported by other large Derby employers such as Rolls Royce, NHS and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services. Derby College also attended.

Bombardier staff will be available to talk to pupils at the second “Careers in the Community” event, which takes place, next Wednesday for children and families from Noel Baker Academy and Merrill Academy. The event will take place at the Brackens Hotel in Allenton between 5 and 7pm.

Other local rail employers who wish to become involved, should contact Elaine Clark at Rail Forum Midlands on 01332 593550 or elaineclark@midlandsrail.co.uk
