Tidyco’s Rail Overhaul Facility officially opened by Lord Patrick McLoughlin

Tidyco, a leading provider of hose assemblies for the rail industry, officially opened their Rail Overhaul Facility in a recently acquired unit off Pentagon Island in Derby. Former Transport Secretary, Lord Patrick McLoughlin was the guest of honour and marked the occasion with an unconventional inauguration.

On Friday 19 November, a number of guests and colleagues were witness to the official opening of the new Rail Overhaul Facility, which occupies Unit 6, which adjoins Tidyco’s existing units at the Pentagon Island. Lord McLoughlin CH was invited as guest of honour and to open the new facility.

Amongst the crowd was Production Director, Phil Mason, who had worked tirelessly over the previous six months to get the newly acquired unit up to Tidyco standards. When asked about the work involved, he had this to say; “It wasn’t a case of just replacing fixtures and fittings, the entirety of the building needed to be stripped out and refitted. This was to not only future-proofing for the projected growth of the business as a whole, but also to make sure it was suitable for rail overhaul employees to carry out the work in a comfortable and suitable environment”.

Phil Mason along with the help of Tidyco engineers found an unusual way of cutting the ribbon, which involved a pair of scissors attached to a train nose cone device that when activated, moved forward and sliced the ribbon in two. Lord Patrick McLoughlin was given the honour of “cutting the ribbon”. When asked about attending, Lord McLoughlin CH said; “It was a pleasure to join Tidyco for the official opening of their new maintenance facility in Derby last week. Tidyco are a great example of a UK SME quietly going about their business supporting the UK railway. The new facilities provide excellent scope to build on their established brand and the enthusiasm for what they are doing was plain to see.”

James Tidy, Managing Director and Paul Jack, Rail Division Director were also in attendance on the day. Paul commented; “It’s great to see everyone’s effort has paid off as we finally move into the next chapter of the Tidyco Rail Division’s development”. James noted; “I’m very proud of what everyone has done and achieved to get to this day today and it was a great honour to welcome here Lord McLoughlin today.”

Completion of the facility was assisted by the Tidyco Climate and Electrical divisions, who helped with the installation of the state of the art lighting system and EV chargers. The next phase of the restoration will be the mounting of PV panels in the very near future.
