We encourage organisations from across the industry to start planning and engaging their teams now for Rail Safety Week 2024, and help deliver a consistent message on safety across the UK. Let’s all get involved and play our part in making Britain’s railway even safer; raising the profile and importance of rail safety across the industry and society as a whole, sharing best practice and working collaboratively.

Rail Forum adopted the Rail Safety Week initiative from its founders at the start of 2023 and delivered Rail Safety Week 2023. This year was a roaring success, with over 140 organisations getting involved – the breadth and depth of activities can be viewed on the Rail Safety Week website and also serve as inspiration for 2024.

Elaine Clark, CEO at Rail Forum and Rail Safety Week Lead, said: “Safety is a key priority for our industry, whether we work in rail, are a passenger or freight customer, or interact with the railways, we all have a vested interest in ensuring that everyone gets home safe every day.

“The engagement with this year’s dedicated week was inspiring; we commend all the organisations that took part and encourage early engagement and planning for 2024.”

To help shape the strategic direction of Rail Safety Week 2024 and provide valued input, a Steering Group has been established with representation from freight, light rail, rolling stock, infrastructure and community.

Simon Higgens, Chair of the Rail Safety Week Steering Group, said: “It is vital that Rail Safety Week remains relevant, up to date and accurately targets those areas that need focusing on; that is why we are bringing in representation from across the whole rail industry, and importantly also across the UK to ensure that happens.”

Rail Forum is also delighted to share some fantastic support from industry that will enable the Rail Safety Week team to build on the initiative, with Kier Transportation signing up as a main sponsor and ISS Labour as a supporting sponsor.

Mandy Duncan, Managing Director Rail and Aviation at Kier Transportation, said: “We are proud to be supporting Rail Safety Week. The importance of safety is industry wide – we all need to work together to keep our railway safe. Safety is Kier’s number one priority and our licence to operate and therefore safety leadership within Kier is fundamental to our culture and to the success of our projects. Nothing is so important that it can’t be done safely.”
