There’s something quietly powerful about a major industry player choosing to invest not just in infrastructure, but in people and place. That’s exactly what’s happening at Aston Station, where Siemens Mobility has made history as the first corporate partner of Community Rail Network to officially adopt a railway station.
Following months of collaboration with West Midlands Railway and extensive local engagement, Siemens colleagues joined local volunteers for a station walkaround to identify where improvements could make the most meaningful difference. Plans range from immediate action, like regular litter picks and general upkeep, to longer-term enhancements including new benches, planters, and community artwork.
Crucially, local young people are at the heart of it. Work experience students have already contributed design ideas to shape the station’s look and feel, and Siemens has committed to engaging local schools through STEM activities, with students invited to design artworks for display.
Shantel Carty, Community Engagement Manager at West Midlands Railway, said:
“We look forward to seeing how Siemens will brighten up the station and make it more welcoming for everyone.”
Steve Bick, Project Director at Siemens Mobility, said:
“This adoption programme is about genuine, long-term partnership.
We’re committed to looking after this station beyond our project completion, working alongside the council and local organisations to create a space the community can be proud of.”
