Recently, Spencer Group took part in Learning at Work Week (LAWW), an annual event that puts the spotlight on the importance of continual learning and development within the workplace.
Spencer Group is committed to supporting all colleagues in their continued development, and investment in its people’s growth continues to remain a priority.
To honour this commitment, the company organised a full week of engaging activities for employees to take part in as part of the Learning at Work Week campaign. Each day centred on a different theme/focus, with activities tailored around each one.
Ranging from informative training sessions to a Q&A with Spencer Group’s Managing Director, the company ensured that there was something for everyone to take part in.
The company kicked off the campaign by sharing an introductory video with all employees featuring senior leaders of each business unit. The video provided them with the opportunity to showcase their team, explain their work and how they each contribute to Spencer Group’s growth.

The first activity of the week was a Dalux Webinar hosted by Spencer Group’s Quality Manager, Claire Ransom. The purpose of this session was to provide employees with the opportunity to learn more about the software; how it works, how to use it and the benefits it brings to the company. Employees were also offered the chance to ask any questions they had about the tool to help them better utilise it going forward.
The next day focused on supporting employees’ learning and development both in and outside of the workplace. To support this, the company shared a range of training courses to staff, including e-learning wellbeing courses from its partner, the Lighthouse Charity and free distance learning courses from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Employees also had the opportunity to attend a webinar hosted by Rebecca Aylen from Phoenix Future Skills, part of Hull College, that explored adult learning and development opportunities. The session highlighted a range of fully funded, nationally recognised qualifications designed to help colleagues continue building new skills.
Continuing the week’s wider focus on personal growth and development, day three turned attention to learning how to prioritise health and wellbeing, with Juliet O’Sullivan, founder of Life & Fork, delivering a nutrition talk in collaboration with Spencer Group’s partner, Coyle Health & Wellbeing.

The informative talk educated attendees on the importance of leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle and was accompanied by complimentary fruit pots provided by Coyle Health & Wellbeing Business Manager, Craig Lane.
Building on the theme of personal wellbeing, Lee Green, Development Director at Spencer Group, delivered a mind management session on day four to support employees in exploring opportunities to develop themselves in a personal and professional capacity.
The session introduced employees to their ‘inner chimp,’ a well-known concept from Dr Steve Peters’ The Chimp Paradox and explored mindset, resilience and pressure management techniques, giving teams valuable tools to support both their professional and personal wellbeing.
To bring the week of informative and engaging activities to a close, Spencer Group’s Managing Director, Gary Thornton, hosted a Q&A session, offering employees the opportunity to ask honest questions about the business. The session covered topics on leadership, company strategy and future growth and was a great way for teams to gain further insight into the business in an open and informal setting.
From technical webinars to mind management sessions, Learning at Work Week offered something for everyone at Spencer Group. By continuing to invest in initiatives that support employees’ personal development, the company is creating more opportunities for colleagues to learn, grow and thrive.
