Challenging the Standards Outside of Network Rail

Date/Time
Date(s) - June 1 2026
3:00pm - 4:30pm

Location

This event will take place online.

Rail Forum’s closer look at innovation and standards continues from 2025 with this webinar which explores how standards are being challenged outside of the traditional framework.

The webinar will examine the Core Valley Lines (CVL), an interesting example of how this significant project, through a collaborative approach across its partners, has created an environment where standards and the effective use of derogations, have enabled the whole-system transformation of a network.  With the backdrop of GBR and its whole-system focus, it’s no surprise that the CVL project is getting noticed for its unique approach.

CVL applies a unique set of circumstances to standards and how it works with them to achieve its goals. The event will explain their approach, the impact and outcomes from the client’s view, and an example of introducing new technology to deliver real impact as a result of standards challenges.

This webinar will specifically explore the following:

  • context setting and insight into the CVL project
  • the CVL approach to standards challenge and derogations
  • stakeholder management as a cornerstone to the approach
  • a supply chain example of how the derogation process has enabled new innovation into the project
  • and from the client’s perspective how this approach has supported their objectives and outcomes.

Speakers

  • Alison Thompson, Infrastructure Management Director, Amey
  • Andrew Morris, Standards & Derogations Manager, Core Valley Lines
  • Neil Evans, Account Director, Amey
  • Dan Tipper, Chief Infrastructure Officer, Transport for Wales
