From Tick‑Box to Transformation: Affording ESG and Social Value Across the Rail Value Chain
As the Procurement Act beds in, expectations on suppliers, including SMEs, continue to grow. This is especially evident in the world of sustainability: environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues that impact business; and the real-world impact of business operations on society.
To support those navigating these changes, Rail Forum is collaborating with Contented, one of our specialist members, to deliver a two‑hour interactive online workshop entitled “Our Impact – Social Value in the Rail Sector” .
The session will:
- Translate jargon into plain English
- Attempt to clarify exemptions and responsibilities
- Help you to understand what rail suppliers need now — and what they must prepare for next
- Look at some practical tools already shaping supply‑chain behaviour, including EcoVadis, Social Value reporting frameworks, and core policy requirements used by major buyers and public bodies.
By the end of the workshop, we aim to ensure delegates:
- Recognise what ESG and Social Value mean in rail today, and how expectations are evolving.
- Understand how a strategic approach can make sustainability more affordable and meaningful.
- Take away simple tools to start drafting a proportionate action plan for future reporting.
We will also be sharing early insights from research with the University of Birmingham and highlighting emerging good practice across the sector followed by a Q & A session.
Speaker and facilitator: Gerard Davies, CEO, Contented ESG – EcoVadis training partner, Social Value International Pioneer and EMCC‑accredited business coach.

Who Should Attend?
The workshop will be relevant to a wide range of colleagues including;
- strategy leads and finance directors
- business development and bidding teams
- key account / client managers
- procurement and compliance leads
- sustainability and social value leads
This session is for Rail Forum members only and will be held on MS Teams.
Bookings close on Friday 17th April and joining information will be sent out w/c 20th.
