In an industry where long-life physical assets can be held hostage to outdated electronic and digital components, members are increasingly reporting challenges with obsolescence. Knowing where to start or how to overcome hurdles and barriers can be difficult and sense checking your concerns with an expert is a great way to progress your approach.
Following the success of our Obsolescence Clinic held in June 2025, we are delighted to repeat this offering as part of our highly effective Rail Forum and the International Institute of Obsolescence Management Memorandum of Understanding.
An afternoon clinic has been scheduled for 26th January where four members will have the opportunity to speak with Obsolescence Expert Stuart Broadbent. Stuart is both Chair of IIOM, and the Obsolescence Director for Alstom in the UK and very well qualified in this domain.
These 20-minute clinic sessions will provide members the opportunity for a 1:1 discussion with Stuart to help explore a particular aspect of their obsolescence journey – whether that be at the very start or relating to a specific situation.
Based on feedback from members, we do particularly encourage our infrastructure members to make use of these appointment and/or pop to visit the IIOM table at InfraTalk on 22 January.

Find out more about our partnership with IIOM here.
Confidentiality
The discussion will be treated confidentially between the member company, IIOM UK and Rail Forum.
Eligibility
This is for Rail Forum members only.
Application
Rail Forum Members are encouraged to complete the form below to request a place. We will prioritise places to members that have not participated in an Obsolescence Clinic previously.
We expect this opportunity to be oversubscribed and will confirm appointments (which will take place via Teams) as soon as we can.
*We encourage any applicants to hold the date in their diaries at point of submitting their request (2 – 4pm, 26 January 2026)*.
Appointments will be confirmed by the Rail Forum and Teams appointments will be issued by Stuart Broadbent with the member directly.
