Derby Manufacturing University Technical College Update

Derby Manufacturing University Technical College (DMUTC) first opened its doors in September 2015 and has now been operational for over 2 years.  Our core purpose is to provide an outstanding technical and academic education for 14-19 year olds and we aim to do this through collaborative working with our sponsors and partners.

Our vision is to become a centre of excellence for Engineering education in the East Midlands and we are fortunate enough to have a range of key sponsors and employer partners to help us achieve this aim.  They include Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Bombardier, University of Derby, Derby College and Derby City Council amongst others.  We plan to work even closer with these companies in the future to enable our students to have access to the highest quality apprenticeships, jobs and higher education when they leave the UTC at the end of Year 11 or 13.

We have just completed our first round of external summer exams the results of which were very pleasing.  We had a number of students go on to Higher Education at universities that include Manchester, Warwick and Coventry.  A number of students took up the opportunity of apprenticeships including a much coveted Higher Apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce.  Our year 11 students have all gone on to continue their education with further studies/apprenticeships, or embark on work related opportunities; many with our sponsor partners.

We look forward to building on this in the years to come, with a growing student population and greater presence in the local community. We are proud to be part of the Rail Forum and look forward to working with many more local Rail companies in the years ahead.
