Hitachi CEO joins 2019 Dinner at the Roundhouse line-up

Andrew Barr, the new Group CEO of Hitachi Rail, completes the senior line-up at this Dinner at the Roundhouse, Derby, on Thursday October 17th 2019.

Andrew will be speaking alongside Mike Brown MVO, Commissioner for London. This year’s host and entertainer is Chris Barrie, star of BBC’s Red Dwarf and The Brittas Empire, and a voice in ITV’s Spitting Image.

Andrew took up his new role in April, joining a global leader in the rail industry with a presence in 30 countries. He began his career in the rail sector in 1990 with London Underground, and has held senior positions with GNER, Bombardier Transportation and the Strategic Rail Authority, before joining Hitachi in 2005.

Mike Brown, who is in charge of the world’s largest transport authority with some 11 million-passenger journeys a day, has had a distinguished 30-year career in the industry.  He continues to be responsible for the continuing transformation of the UK’s capital’s Underground network as well as supervising the London Overground, Docklands Light Railway, and London Trams.

With over 500 industry guests each year – and 450 already confirmed for 2019 – Dinner at the Roundhouse celebrates the achievements of the fast-moving rail sector in the magnificent surroundings of the 1839 Roundhouse.

Always a sell-out event, the audience includes many of the UK’s major transport decision-makers, including Government ministers, local and national politicians, manufacturers, passenger and freight operators, rolling stock leasing companies, construction companies, consultants and suppliers.

The 2019 Dinner at the Roundhouse is the climax of a full day when senior figures from the UK and overseas will be visiting the city for the Rail Forum Midlands annual conference, which has its own top speakers.

It will highlight the work the body and its 150 business members employing 25,000 people are doing to support the development of the next generation of skilled workforce, growing exports and accelerating and supporting innovation.

Dinner at the Roundhouse has raised over £130,000 to date for a variety of charities, proving the astonishing generosity within the railway sector and its incredible power to drive change and help those in need locally, nationally and around the world. For 2019 we have agreed to support the Padley Group, which is committed to supporting the most vulnerable in our society.
