The Deltic Preservation Society has transferred one of its three preserved Class 55 Deltics, D9015 Tulyar, to the Great Central Railway as the locomotive begins the next chapter in its restoration journey.
The move marks a significant milestone for the project, with testing now underway ahead of a planned entry into passenger service on the heritage line.
Once passed fit, Tulyar will once again haul trains for the first time in nearly three decades, as the locomotive last carried passengers back in 1997.
The Great Central Railway, the UK’s only double-track main line heritage railway, provides an ideal proving ground for the powerful Type 5 diesel.
Enthusiasts and rail fans will be watching closely as one of Britain’s most iconic locomotive classes edges closer to a long-awaited return to action.
