Prolectric is hosting a free CPD webinar exploring practical ways to replace diesel and mains power with renewable alternatives across temporary and permanent rail sites.
The session — Sustainable Rail Sites of the Future — comes as the UK rail industry pushes towards Net Zero. While decarbonising rolling stock and trackside power has seen meaningful progress, many construction sites, maintenance compounds and rail assets continue to depend on diesel generators and grid-connected infrastructure for power, lighting and security.
The webinar will look at how advances in solar energy, battery storage and smart off-grid technologies are making the transition to more sustainable sites increasingly viable. Drawing on real-world case studies from UK rail projects — including work by Colas Rail, Network Rail and Amey Rail on TransPennine Route Upgrade East and Northern Rail — the session will cover the carbon, cost and social benefits that renewable alternatives can deliver in practice.
Practical applications covered will include off-grid temporary power, lighting, CCTV, EV charging and permanent solar street lighting.
Attendees will come away with an understanding of where off-grid solutions can realistically be deployed, how solar and battery systems perform in UK conditions, and how to identify opportunities for adoption across both temporary and permanent rail environments.
The webinar is open to site managers, project managers, sustainability and ESG leads, civil engineers, and contractors and procurement teams. A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants, and a recording will be shared with registered delegates who cannot attend live.
