A unique event, now in its fourth edition, TOCTalk returns for 2026 and this time it’s bigger than ever!  From start to finish, this will be a full day dedicated to train operators and their needs; it is not to be missed!

The key objective is to enable the supply chain to understand what Train Operators are looking to achieve with a day fully immersed in TOC challenges, opportunities and future aspirations.

Working in partnership with Department for Transport Operator (DfTO), we have an exciting programme exploring future requirements as well as the future organisational design.  It will also provide critical context of how the supply chain will interact as DfTO expands with additional operators over the coming years.

Format and Speakers

Delegates can expect a fast paced and high value event balancing updates and knowledge sharing with excellent networking opportunities.

We encourage delegates to ensure that their travel plans can accommodate the full day programme to avoid missing out on key updates.  The programme will run from  8:45am – 5:00pm

The day is split into four sessions as outlined below:

Session 1 – A deep dive into DfTO
  • Keynote Address from Alex Hynes, Chief Executive, DfT Operator
  • Exploration into rolling stock strategy with Michael Hayes, Deputy Director, Rolling Stock & Infrastructure Whole System Strategy, currently Department for Transport
  • Future engagement with TOCs with Neil Bowen, Group Procurement Director, DfT Operator
  • Procuring with DfTO with Alice McDonnell, Commercial Risk, Assurance & Compliance Manager, DfT Operator
Session 2 & 3 – Hear from the Train Operators

Session 4 – Workshop with DfTO

Clinic Tables

In addition to hearing from senior representatives of train operators, delegates will have the opportunity to drop into clinic tables hosted by procurement professionals from participating train operators.  These tables will be operational during the networking breaks and are on a first come first serve basis.  To make the best use of your (and their) time, please come prepared with any specific questions.

Workshops

The final session of the day will be focussed on specific workshops hosted by DfTO colleagues on topics identified as critical for the continued improvement of the railway offering under the new landscape.  These ‘must attend’ workshops will help the supply chain to shape their offering to best meet the needs of the UK railway.  Details of topic areas will be shared nearer the time.

Who should attend?

This event is essential for any rail supply chain organisation seeking to work with DfTO as it accommodates additional train operators.  Having clarity on the new structures and intent of DfTO is essential for suppliers to build the necessary understanding of future needs and requirements as well as implementing any supplier expectations from DfTO to support the delivery of a resilient, high performing and value-focussed national railway.
